This was my “big idea” game. I wanted to do a Victorian game with supernatural elements and seized on the idea that all the great genre fiction of the day was true. From there, it was a short jump to come up with the idea of the passages themselves. Most of the great setting material was created by the incomparable Richard Farrese. The cover art by Jenn Rodgers is by far my favorite piece from all of my publications. And the game has a great elevator pitch: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen meets Sliders. Ultimately, I am a bit disappointed with my blind commitment to make it a d20 hack. The system is a great d20 hack in my estimation and offered up some neat bits of tech, including further development of the idea of spread. But, candidly, d20 is not a great fit. It would take a few years for me to realize it and find another system that is a perfect fit: Fate – Accelerated Edition. It’s on the to-do list.
